A Little Life in the Alps

Follow along with our Swiss Adventure

We’re Here!

Part 1:

We’ve arrived safe and sound to our new home in Chernex, Switzerland. Surprisingly few hiccups (just a bumpy landing in a Montreal thunderstorm) along the way. Cedar is a great traveler, he couldn’t believe his luck to learn all the rules about screen-time are out the window on the plane ride. I’m pretty sure he powered through two flights, and an 18 hour travel day with very little shut eye. It finally caught up to him at dinnertime when he fell asleep at the table at the Chevalley’s house. Sabine met us at the airport in Geneva and helped us navigate our way to our new apartment. One of the things we love so much about Switzerland is the incredible public transportation system. We were off the plane, and on the train for our 1.5hr ride to Montreux without any delay. A few pictures below while we get our technology in order!

Part 2:

Martina (our apartment host) had kindly dropped our key off with Sabine, so we were smooth sailing upon arrival to Chernex (about a 15 min train ride up the hill from Montreux) Sheila spent many months researching (and negotiating prices) for accommodations. Top of the list was a nice patio with a view, you can see from the pictures below – mission accomplished. After unpacking and a quick visit to the market (Denner) right beside our apartment to grab some essentials (chips, beer, and wine) we joined the Chevalley Family, as well as some friends we’ve met on past trips to Switzerland – Patrick, David & Celine, for an apertif on the patio, and then dinner at Sabine and Yvan’s. It didn’t take Cedar long to get comfortable with the kids, joining a village wide game of hide and go seek.

Cedar ended up making it a pretty impressive 30 hours or so without sleep, and it finally caught up to him at the dinner table at Sabine and Yvan’s. We carried him home (about 1 min walk) and thus ended day one of our adventure. We will try and keep our travel journal updated semi-regularly. Thanks for following along!

  1. What an excellent travel buddy! I can picture the scene of the hide-and-go-seek – how special and memorable these little moments will be. Can’t wait to read more of your adventures!
